Pinetree Road, written Pine Tree Road by the registry of deeds, the assessors and most recent town reports, is a street of about 1,590 feet in South Billerica, inland from Ranlett Grove, running northeast from the corner of Lupine Lane and Mirror Road, where Kirk Road also ends; Hilary Road meets it from Edgar Road. It was laid out on a "Subdivision Plan of Land in Billerica" drawn by George H. Poor, surveyor, in November 1967, which re-divided earlier lots of the Ranlett land, registered in the Land Court as case 2792, into lots 326 to 405 on Edgar, Solar, Mirror, Kirk, Hilary and Pine Tree Roads. The court approved it on January 27, 1970, and it was registered on June 5, 1970 as Land Court Plan 2792-T (Registration Book 89, Page 29). The plan does not explain the name. Most of the houses date from the 1970s according to the assessors, but two near the eastern end, 23 and 25 Pine Tree Road, are older, built about 1930 and 1958; how that end relates to any earlier way has not been traced.
The town's street acceptance report of 1973 described Kirk Road as running "From Concord Road to Pine Tree Road, a distance of approximately 1,364 feet as shown on a plan entitled 'Ranlett Grove' prepared by George H. Poor, Nov. 18, 1967." At the ninth session of the annual town meeting, on May 13, 1976, the town accepted the laying out of "PINETREE ROAD ... a way 1,588 feet long and 50 feet wide for the first 1443 feet and the remainder [45] feet wide," together with Hilary Road, Lupine Lane and other streets of the neighborhood, after voting down a motion to raise $170 for it that the Street Acceptance Committee had asked for.
